Hello everyone! I apologize that this list is so late, but here are my Top 10 Worst Films of 2020. This past year had several really good films, however there were also some that were just not very good.
Number 10 is Palm Springs. I was actually really looking foward to this film due to such positive word-of-mouth, and the first 30-ish minutes made me think that it lived up to all the hype. However, after that first act the film slows down A LOT and I found myself rather bored throughout the entire remaining hour. Christin Millioti and Andy Samberg were great, but the film just didn't wow me like it did for everyone else.
Number 9 is Emma. I love pretty much anything that Anya Taylor-Joy does, and I thought that she was an absolute delight in this film. However the terrific performances and incredible production design couldn't save the fact that this film was incredibly boring and further re-assured me that period peices are not for me.
Number 8 is Bloodshot. This film has some really impressive visual effects, and I thought there were some really nice locations and set peices. However I felt that this film was full of wasted potential and had absolutely nothing to justify its existence.
Number 7 is Extraction. I honestly feel that this film is entirely overrated. While the stunts are in truth incredible, I felt that the story was not compelling in the slightest and there was an extreme lack of comic relief with all of that excessive violence.
Number 6 is Greyhound. This film was atrocious. The storytelling is off the charts sloppy, and while I did appreciate the 90 minute runtime, the film is nothing but endless boat fighting and actors who do absolutely nothing. This is a film that really shows that Tom Hanks should stick to acting, not writing.
Number 5 is TENET. This film was a complete waste of my time. While I did really like John David Washington's performance, the VFX, and the score, this film made absolutely no sense whatsoever and even upon rewatches, I still cannot understand the story that Christopher Nolan is trying to tell. Don't even get me started on the horrendous sound mixing.
Number 4 is The Gentlemen. This is a film that is blatantly proves that Guy Ritchie is quite possibly one of the worst screenwriters working today. This film is boring, uninteresting, unfunny, and full of wasted actors and an EXTREME overuse of the word c--t. I honestly feel that this film was a mistake.
Number 3 is The Photograph. My review for this film is not the best, because I didn't really ellaborate on what I didn't like about this film because I was literally so mad. I couldn’t feel the chemistry between Issa Rae and LaKeith Stanfield, the pacing is dreadful, and the entire premise of the film is highly uninteresting and I quite honestly couldn't wait for this film to end.
Number 2 is The Grudge. This is quite possibly one of the worst horror films I have ever seen. The characters make the absolute worst decisions I have ever seen, the film drags heavily, the plot is practically nonexistent, the and the final minutes of this film are unforgivable. Every actor in this movie is completely wasted and they're given nothing to do except scream and make terrible decisions.
Before we get to my number 1 pick, here are some UN-Honorable mentions.
Bad Boys for Life: A film that features some great chemistry between the leads but is filled with dry humor and a garbage premise.
Call of the Wild: A film with a good start and impressive visuals, but made me feel nothing because the dog was CGI.
Irresistible. Good performances and plot twist, but incredibly slow and extreme lack of humor.
My number 1 worst film of 2020 is Downhill. This film is borderline unwatchable. Julia Louis-Deyfus and Will Ferrell (who I thought was extremely miscast) were wasted in a poorly written, incredibly unfunny, and painfully slow film that I nearly walked out of. Despite being only 85 minutes, this film felt nearly twice the length and it was just absolutely excruciating to sit through. In fact, this review was apart of a Quick Movie Reviews segment because it was so bad, I felt that it didn't deserve its own review. This was hands down the worst film of 2020, and it deserves the letter grade directly below “F”.
Those were my Top 10 Worst Films of 2020. Please feel free to share some films that you think deserve to be on this list and don't forget to like, comment, and subscribe to Matthew's Movie Reviews and follow my Facebook Page for many more reviews coming very soon!
