Zack Snyder's Justice League an HBO Max Original Film directed by Zack Snyder and is the original vision of the 2017 film “Justice League”. Determined to ensure Superman's ultimate sacrifice was not in vain, Bruce Wayne aligns forces with Diana Prince with plans to recruit a team of metahumans to protect the world from an approaching threat of catastrophic proportions. The film stars Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller, Ray Fisher, Jason Momoa, Henry Cavill, and many more.

This has to be one of the best comic book films I have ever seen, and quite possibly even one of the best films I've ever seen. The direction by Zack Snyder is sublime and this is easily his best film to date. As a person who hasn’t seen the 2017 film, I can’t really compare the two, but since this film is so good I can definitely assume that this is better than the original by a landslide. The wordbuilding is also quite remarkable. The way that the astounding visuals and beautiful cinematography are able to show all of the different worlds we explore throughout the film was so well done that it was truly a sight to behold. The storytelling here is also quite good. The script written by Chris Terrio is extremely well-written and not only makes for an incredibly captivating and entertaining film, but also a perfect showcase of all of the characters. Because of the incredible script, the film moves at a lightning pace and despite clocking in at just over 4 hours, it didn’t feel nearly that long because I was so immersed in the film.

On the topic of characters. All of the performances in this film were absolutely incredible. Ben Affleck does a terrific job with Batman, and I really liked what he was able to add to the character. The portrayal of Wonder Woman in this film is quite possibly the best that I've seen so far in the DCEU, and it also helps that Gal Gadot does a lovely job with her performance. All of our main actors also have really great chemistry, and just watching these character connect in such a profound way really strengthened my love for this film.

The production values on display here are top-notch. As I previously mentioned, this visuals in this film. Steppenwolf's design is a complete 180 from the original film, and all of the sets and backgrounds were lovely to look at. The cinematography is also really good, and it gives the film a very bleak and gritty undertone which I love to see with the comic-book genre. The costumes were also incredibly well made. They all looked very comic-accurate and whoever gave Superman a black and white suit deserves a massive pay raise.

All in all, this is not only one of the best comic book films I've ever seen, certainly the best DCEU film, but one of the best films I've ever seen period. The actors all gave incredible performances and had great chemistry, the direction was top-notch, the storytelling and worldbuilding was highly commendable, and the film as a whole is incredibly well made. This is definitely a film I'd recommend making the time to watch and this is definitely one of the best films of 2021 so far.

Final Grade: A+
